Puerto Barrios - El Salvador
After your arrival in Puerto Barrios, head to the front of the Litegua Bus station (situated at the corner of the central market). From there, catch the bus heading to Chiquimula (Q 70).
In Chiquimula, you have two options:
You can either take a direct bus (which takes many turns and makes frequent stops) or opt for a bus directly to the Anguiatu Border (recommended).
Once you’ve crossed the border, you can catch another bus to your final destination.
Honduras
Currently, we do not provide shuttle services to Honduras. However, it is both easy and safe to use public transportation for this journey. While there are shuttle options available online, we do not recommend these companies due to their unreliability – they have failed to pick up several of our guests in the past.
Upon arrival at the border, you’ll notice that both immigration offices are located within the same building. Honduras imposes a US$ 3 entry tax. Complete the registration form and and select Private Ground Trasnsportation. You need to register with an email. When finished, take a screenshot of the ID number at the top of the form.
Some additional help while filling out the form:
Pais de origen: Guatemala
Medio de transporte: terrestre
Delegación: Corinto
Empresa de transporte: Particular
Número de vuelo: pick any number you like (required)
Word of advice:
Convert all of your Quetzales into Lempiras before crossing the border, as Quetzales will not be accepted once you’ve crossed.
It’s best to avoid using your credit cards or ATMs at the border or on your journey, as it can be dangerous. Consider withdrawing Lempiras at the larger bus stations.
Puerto Barrios - San Pedro Sula - La Ceiba | Utila
About 90% of our visitors arrive in La Ceiba between 2:00-3:00 PM, feeling secure when using public buses in Honduras. The other 10% who are late often choose cheaper buses in San Pedro Sula that make frequent stops. It’s worth noting that La Ceiba is a safe town.
After your arrival in Puerto Barrios, head to the Corinto Bus station (central market – front of Restaurant Maxim), than take a bus to the border. They leave once they’re full, typically, in every hour. (Q 20-30, from 5.00 AM).
Upon crossing the border, you will require a minimum of Q 200 to reach San Pedro Sula. Take the direct bus Maya de Oro to San Pedro Sula (Q 150).
If direct buses aren’t available, you can consider the following itinerary (each transfer point facilitates a seamless transition):
Corinto – Omoa – Puerto Cortez – San Pedro Sula
At this bus station, you can choose from 5 different bus companies to reach La Ceiba, and if you act quickly, you can catch the last ferry to Utila. Upon arriving in La Ceiba, we suggest taking a taxi to catch the last ferry (4:30 PM / US$ 35).
